Jill Langford

I took a Fine Art degree at Reading University followed by the Education Diploma at Oxford University. I was not a successful teacher in Hull so for 25 years I became a Photographer of Children and childhood. I produced large back and white photographs for exhibitions, university departments and private clients. Returning to painting seriously thirty years ago.

I am a founder member of Southwell Artists, a group of professional artists living in Southwell who have opened their studios biannually since 2004 sometimes getting up to a thousand visitors in a two day weekend.

I have attended the Royal Drawing School throughout each year since 2003 for portrait painting 'Drawing the Clothed Model', believing that only by continual practice can one retain one's abilities. I use pallet knives and oil paints. I aim to find beauty in the unexpected, a garden fork, a potato masher, or a cabbage. I am a slow painter but like the concentration involved.
